Being a leader on campus is challenging AND one of the biggest opportunities of your time as a student. Fortunately, everything from BBQs on campus to Industry Networking Nights have a formula. The quicker you learn these, the faster you can do what no one has been able to do before. Learning to prioritize high-importance, long term goals will dramatically increase your impact.
If you took the quiz about and are looking to make an impact fast, here are 3 ideas to get you started:
Imagine it is the end of 2020. Don’t worry about how you got there. You have achieved the best year ever. Describe how the year would be ‘the best ever’ in 3x measurable ways? How do you measure success?
Why are your team members on the society? Do you know what they each want out of the experience of being a leader? Ask each of them (one by one) why they joined, how they define success and what their personal goals are for the year.
What did the last committee do well, not so well and what would they change. A S.W.O.T. analysis (Strength-Weakness-Opportunities-Threats) done by each person before they leave their role is invaluable. Can you make this happen?
